Hello, my name is Ashton! I am a full stack engineer who looks for more things to learn every week. I love being a Software Engineer because it offers endless problems to solve and has creativity aspects as well which can tickle both sides of the brain. I have a non-traditional background that spans over a couple years including multiple projects, education, and work experience.

My journey as a Software Engineer began at Bloom Institute of Technology, a full stack web developer bootcamp. I started in 2020 and graduated in 2021.At the end of my time at Bloomtech, I began a 2-month internship as a Front End Design Lead where I designed a Heads Up Display feature which tracks progress on the app for an e-learning startup where the mission was to gamify education for kids learning to read and write. Aside from designing and coding this feature, I held weekly standups with my team of interns to make sure we met MVP on time.

Fast forward to January 2023, after a year of personal projects, I was brought on as a full stack engineer at Wevise. Wevise is a mentorship platform that is free for all users with the core mission of making entry into tech more accessible with mentorship not locked behind a paywall. I have worked on quite a lot at Wevise, but most notably is the notifications feature. This is the one feature I have sole ownership over from front to back. This feature notifies users with a welcome message on their first login, whenever they have a match, and whenever they have a connection update or a reminder to accept/deny a connection.

One thing I can say about myself is that I am always looking for the next challenge. I prefer to go through the process of not knowing what to do next or how to fix something right away so that it can be used as a core memory later on due to the trouble I had to go through to solve it. There is no better feeling than climbing that mountain and planting your flag saying you have conquered the task. However, I have come to realize that this trip can be better with friends.
